The latest action – Boom and Zoom

So Ive been getting into PvP flights lately and one thing I noticed is how one can utilize energy disparity to achieve a performance edge in combat. I was not doing this at all in single player. This gave rise to my current flights using boom and zoom tactics. More specifically Boom and Zoom in the Bf109, since when I was flying the Yaks, they were better suited to turn fighting.

Bf109F-4 2 kills in a flight and landing (IL-2 BOM)

Flying an F-4 I tried to focus on Boom and Zoom and did get side tracked into a turn fight at high alt at one occasion and nearly got shot down, but recovered and got a P40 and then a Yak.

Bf109F-4 & G-4 Vs. LAGG, Yak, Mig La5 pe2 il2 (IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad)

One thing I learnt is that with Boom and Zoom, as soon as I get withing striking range of a Yak for example, he rolls right and dives, and the 109 rolls slowest to the right, so theres that. The main thing is that I probably need to take shots from further out to hit em before they roll. And then make myself climb and disengage and not degenerate into a turn fight like I usually do haha.

The only thing I used to do was turn-fighting, but now I am trying boom and zoom.

Fighting an LA5.

ME262 Boom & Zoom (IL-2 Great Battles)

I had good success here with the 262, after I have been practicing this tactic in the Bf109 PvP lately.

P47D Boom and Zoom Vs. Bf109F-2 & FW190A-3 (IL-2 Great Battles)

This is a superb tactic, when I actually use it, it actually works! As you can see in the latter half I got hit and that was because I stopped B&Z and switched to basically chasing a 109 in level flight.
